Westerville · Useful information

Before the keys go in a drawer.

A new Westerville address comes with more than a front-door key. Take a moment to list the entrances and access devices you are responsible for before choosing what to change.

01

Put each keyed entrance on the list

Start with the front, side and rear doors, plus the keyed connecting door between the garage and house. Note which keys you received and which locks they operate.

If you are unsure who has old copies, ask about rekeying. Suitable existing hardware may be considered; not every lock needs automatic replacement after a move.

02

Notice what already feels different

A sticky key, unreliable latch or damaged handle belongs on a separate line. A change in key access does not automatically repair an operating problem.

Use the lock repair page to describe those symptoms. You do not need to dismantle the hardware or identify a part before asking for advice about the proposed work.

03

Give the garage its own section

Ask which remotes and access codes were handed over and what equipment information is available. The overhead door and opener are different from the keyed door into the house.

If the existing overhead door has a problem, see garage door repair. If you are considering replacing the whole door, use the installation page for planning questions.

04

Check permission and the scope

For a rental or shared entrance, speak with the appropriate owner or manager before changing access. Keep the approving person involved if several households or managed spaces use the entrance.

Call 614-954-8332 with your list and address. Ask what the proposed estimate covers, what still needs inspection and how a different recommendation will be explained.
