An estimate is useful when it describes your door, car or garage request. Start with the situation, then ask which work and materials are included and what still needs checking.
01
Describe the job before comparing a price
Give the complete address and entrance or vehicle. For a car, include the year, make and model. For planned key changes, count the doors and describe the existing hardware.
An ordinary door lock, a missing car key and garage door installation are different jobs. A price for one should not be assumed to describe another.
02
Ask what is included and excluded
Clarify the proposed visit, labor, hardware or key functions, and any programming or associated work. Ask what requires inspection before the scope can be settled.
For a new garage door, discuss the door itself, related hardware, opener work if any and handling of the existing door. For a repair, distinguish assessment and repair from a whole new installation.
03
Keep changes understandable
A phone description may not reveal every condition. Ask how a revised recommendation will be explained and who will approve it before additional work goes ahead.
For a rental, shared entrance, workplace or company car, identify the approving contact early. The commercial page covers the kind of access arrangements worth mentioning.

A simple question to start with
You can say: “This is the door and the problem. What would the proposed work include, and what needs checking before we agree?” You do not need the name of every part.
